VINALLEY ART CLUB

2023
Design
President, Creative Lead

Vinalley is a Vietnamese student association that promotes cultural appreciation and artistic dialogue through social media activities, workshops, and video podcasts.

As the creative lead for Vinalley, my focus is on crafting a distinctive logo and club identity that encapsulates our mission and values. Drawing inspiration from Vietnamese culture and art, I aim to create a logo that truely resonates with our spirit.

But what value do we want to create, or even can create? This question often lingered in the gaps during meetings with friends at OCADU, who would soon become fellow Vinalley members.

OCADU has no shortage of clubs that help diverse communities connect, yet I kept feeling there was a deeper mission waiting to be realized. Something that resonates with both artistic vision and the spirit of home.

Inspired by Vietnamese alleys, we noticed how community life in our home country is filled with cooking aromas, coffee scents, and lively chatter, where blue and red plastic stools serve as silent companions, integral to our daily routine.

We came to agree with the idea of plastic stools as our centered symbol.

With this idea in mind, I reached out to a few close friends back in Vietnam for inspiration, especially one friend I’ll always be thankful for. He encouraged me to think about how we could connect ‘who we are’ with ‘where we’re from.’

And that’s how we came up with the name ‘Vinalley.’ That’s how I brought our logo to life.

StreetSans, a typeface by the talented Vietnamese designer Huy Dinh, felt like exactly what I’d pictured for the logo.

Bold. Narrow. Classic. Modern. A blend of both. Made for the Vietnamese alphabet, for Vietnamese people.

There is no single color or font style that can fully capture how vibrant and hectic Vietnam is, so we included a variety.

The so-called artistic dialogues will be short video podcasts that we plan to produce as the main activity of Vinalley.
